Services at Port Augusta Hospital and Regional Health Service
Accident and emergencies
Services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
Medical and surgical
This includes a full surgery service with general surgery and day surgery. We also provide five monitored beds, outpatient services, palliative care, rehabilitation and renal dialysis.

We also provide specific facilities and staff for Aboriginal patients.
Chemotherapy services
A chemotherapy service with six chemotherapy chairs with trained and accredited Registered Nurses to provide chemotherapy treatment and other cancer services, including infusions.
Chemotherapy services include:
- Coordination of your cancer care which can help you navigate the health system.
- Treatments including oral chemotherapy and intravenous infusion treatments in the chemotherapy unit or via slow release pumps.
- Access to a visiting oncology clinic at the Whyalla Chemotherapy Unit.
- Access to the Digital Telehealth Network equipment so you can have follow-up appointments with your oncologist, this may reduce the need to travel for some appointments.
- Non-chemotherapy infusion centre services including pump disconnects, PICC and port flushes, and blood transfusions referred from any source.
Obstetrics and maternity
Caesarean operations, epidural anaesthetics and birthing facilities are available at this hospital. A shared care arrangement with GPs, an obstetrician and community midwives assist women with care and treatment before, during and after childbirth.

The Port Augusta Hospital and Regionaal Health Service works with local Aboriginal communities to improve their health and wellbeing through the Aboriginal Health Manager. We provide leadership, coordination, and planning of Aboriginal health services, advise, inform, and refer to mainstream services. We also provide health screening, diabetes care, counselling, and assist health workers to understand the needs and culture of the Aboriginal community.
Assistance and support can be provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who need an interpreter for medical, transport, and social issues. The services of a traditional healer can be provided on request. Ask the nurse to contact the manager of Aboriginal Health for any of our services.
A liaison officer is available during the day Monday to Friday for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients who may require advice or assistance. Please let your nurse know, and they will contact the liaison officer.
All ward areas including accident and emergency as well as the Step Down Unit and administration buildings are culturally blessed/cleansed at least once per year.
