Accident and emergency services

Services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

Hospital services

General medical and surgical care includes:

  • chemotherapy
  • day surgery facilities
  • diagnostic radiology/xray/CT/fluoroscopy
  • diagnostic ultrasound

  • general dental
  • gynaecology
  • inpatient
  • obstetrics
  • orthopaedic surgery

Chemotherapy services

The Kangaroo Island Health Service provides low-risk chemotherapy treatment in Kingscote under the care of your oncologist based at the Flinders Medical Centre.

Kangaroo Island Chemotherapy Unit services include:

  • coordination of your cancer care which can help you navigate the health system
  • low-risk chemotherapy treatment including oral chemotherapy and intravenous infusion treatments in the chemotherapy unit or via slow release pumps
  • access to video conferencing units so you can have follow-up appointments with your oncologist reducing the need to travel
  • non-chemotherapy infusion centre services including pump disconnects, PICC and Port flushes.

Residential Aged Care

Kangaroo Island Health Service offers residential aged care facilities at two locations, both of which provide a variety of services. The nursing home attached to the hospital provides residential accommodation for older people in need of high-level care. It includes secure premises for people with dementia.

The co-located hostel facility, Carnarvon is located to the rear of the facility and provides low level residential aged care services.

Community health services

The Hills Southern Fleurieu Kangaroo Island Community Health Service provides a range of services from four sites in the region:

  • Goolwa
  • Kingscote, Kangaroo Island
  • Mount Barker
  • Victor Harbor.
