The Plan for Learning and Development – Mental Health (2025-2030) (PDF 269KB) sets out how South Australia will strengthen the skills, knowledge and capability of the mental health workforce.

The Plan supports a workforce that delivers safe, high-quality and person-centred care for the community – now and into the future.

What the Plan aims to do

The Plan aims to:

  • build a skilled and capable mental health workforce
  • support ongoing learning at all stages of a career
  • improve collaboration across the sector
  • strengthen how learning translates into better care.

Learning and development is seen as an ongoing process that supports staff to build knowledge, skills and confidence over time.

Key focus areas

The Plan outlines five priority areas for action:

  1. Build workforce capability
    Support staff to develop the skills and knowledge needed to deliver safe, high-quality care.
  2. Strengthen partnerships
    Encourage collaboration and shared learning across services, organisations and sectors.
  3. Improve access to learning
    Develop a more coordinated and accessible approach to training, including digital and online options.
  4. Grow research and innovation
    Build research skills and support the use of evidence in everyday practice.
  5. Measure impact
    Improve how learning outcomes are tracked and how training translates into better care.
