This site contains the South Australian Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPC) for most frequently referred Cardiology conditions.
Cardiology conditions
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all conditions for outpatient services and does not exclude consideration for referral unless specifically stipulated in the cardiology exclusions section.
- Angina/Myocardial Ischaemia/Chest Pain
- Atrial Fibrillation/Flutter (AF)
- Heart Failure (HF)
- Murmur
- Palpitations
- Syncope and Pre-Syncope
Out of scope
Not all medical conditions are covered by the CPC, as certain conditions may be considered out of scope or managed by other specialist services:
- nil
Exclusions for public specialist outpatient services
Not all cardiology conditions are appropriate for referral into the South Australian public health system. The following are not routinely provided in a public specialist outpatient service:
- stable asymptomatic ischaemic heart disease more than 12 months since an acute cardiac event
- asymptomatic well controlled chronic atrial fibrillation (AF)
- asymptomatic or symptomatic isolated ectopic beats
- premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) less than 10% frequency without red flags.
- hypertension and hyperlipidaemia for routine management
- refer to National Heart Foundation: Hypertension Clinical Information and Guidelines
- note: referrals for hypertension and hyperlipidaemia refractory to treatment and/or complex presentations may be accepted and triaged at the discretion of the triaging clinician.
- consider referral to General Medicine and/or Clinical Pharmacologist
