Services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

Maternity/obstetrics

A birthing suite is available at this facility. A shared care arrangement with General Practitioners and community midwifes assist women with care and treatment before, during and after childbirth.

Childbirth and parenting classes are conducted as well as community Midwifery service. A midwife can visit you at home to support you after the birth of your baby.

Chemotherapy service

The Port Pirie Regional Health Service provides medium-risk chemotherapy treatment in Port Pirie under the care of your visiting oncologist.

The Port Pirie Regional Health Service chemotherapy (PDF 79KB) services include:

  • Coordination of your cancer care which can help you navigate the health system.
  • Treatments including oral chemotherapy and intravenous infusion treatments in the chemotherapy unit or via slow release pumps.
  • Access to a visiting oncology clinic at the Port Pirie chemotherapy unit.
  • Access to Digital Telehealth Network so you can have follow-up appointments with your oncologist, this may reduce the need to travel for some appointments.
  • Non-chemotherapy infusion centre services including pump disconnects, PICC and Port flushes, and blood transfusions referred from any source.

Renal dialysis

A renal dialysis service is offered by the health service six days a week, with four permanent chairs in use. Our trained staff provide expert care and advice, and a visiting nephrologist is on site at regular times.

Cardiac rehabilitation program  

This is an eight week program conducted by qualified staff including a:

  • ambulance officer
  • dietician
  • doctor
  • occupational therapist
  • pharmacist
  • physiotherapist
  • social worker.

Each session consists of a talk and exercise program to suit the individual. Blood pressure is monitored and there is an opportunity to discuss problems.

Lymphoedema service

The Port Pirie Regional Health Service Lymphoedema service (PDF 115KB) aims to empower individuals with sufficient knowledge and skills to manage their lymphoedema effectively and independently.

Aboriginal health team

The Aboriginal health team works with local Aboriginal communities to improve their health and wellbeing. We advise and refer to mainstream services. The team provides health screening, diabetes care, counselling and assists health workers to understand the needs and culture of the Aboriginal community. After hours or crisis services or transport to appointments are not provided.

Do it for life

Do It for Life is a State Government initiative to help people reduce smoking, improve nutrition, reduce alcohol use, increase physical activity and decrease stress as a way of  preventing serious long-term diseases. 'Lifestyle Advisors' support patients over a period of 3 to 12 months to make and maintain these lifestyle changes.

We have a child development unit for children up to five years, who have difficulty in areas of development. We also provide parenting education. Contact us for further information regarding services, facilities and publications available.

Well women’s clinic

Our women’s health centre (PDF 94KB) aims to improve the health and wellbeing of all South Australian women. Some of the services include: medical services, health checks, counselling, support groups, support for refugee and migrant women, opportunities for community action and health information.

Our Environmental health centre is a free community service which can help you understand the issues about lead. We offer services to monitor and maintain low blood lead levels.

Port Pirie Regional Health Service offers residential aged care at the co-located Hammill House. Hammill House provides accommodation for older people with a high level of need. Our facilities include secure premises for residents with dementia.
