Orthopaedic, amputee and burns services at the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre
From Tuesday, 9 July 2024, the orthopaedic, amputee and burns rehabilitation ward will be located at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the new Kangkanthi building, at 28 Woodville Road, Woodville South.

The Orthopaedic, Amputee and Burns Rehabilitation Unit is a 25 bed unit providing inpatient rehabilitation for clients following limb amputation, burns, and orthopaedic surgery and/or trauma, with 70% of these clients falling into the older age group.
Clients are admitted following referral and medical consultation from many sources:
- within Adelaide
- regional and country South Australia
- Broken Hill
- Mildura.
The unit provides a multidisciplinary team approach to the rehabilitation phase with members from the following areas:
- medical
- nursing
- occupational therapy
- physiotherapy
- social work
- prosthetics and orthotics
- clinical psychology
- other specialist disciplines as required, for example:
- dietetics
- speech pathology
- neuropsychology.
If indicated, clients will also be referred to the on-site driver assessment and retraining programme and more intensive physical therapy.
The client and immediate relatives or carers are also considered part of the team, and are encouraged to be an active part of the rehabilitation programme.
Rehabilitation principles are encouraged by all staff, both on the unit and within the purpose built therapy complex which the clients attend Monday to Friday.
