Public health services in regional South Australia are delivered by six regional local health networks.

These include public hospital services and other community based health services such as community health and residential services for the aged and other vulnerable groups.

Scholarships are open for applications from people residing in regional areas who demonstrate a strong commitment to continued professional practice in regional and rural areas of South Australia.

Below are the details of the rural health scholarships that our regional local health networks offer each year but are not currently open for applications:

Rural Health Undergraduate Scholarships

  • There are a total of 6 scholarships in total offered at each intake period.
  • Each scholarship is awarded for up to a maximum of four years (for the duration of the approved program of study) at $5,000 per year paid (total funding up to $20,000).  The confirmed total amount of funding and the number of years of funding offered to scholarship recipients is determined by the Scholarship Panel
  • The scholarship payments are paid in two half yearly payments.
  • To be eligible to apply applicants must:
    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
    • reside in, or have resided in regional South Australia prior to undertaking tertiary studies
    • be studying full time, or about to commence full time study 
    • be undertaking study in one of the identified undergraduate disciplines as determined by the approved Workforce Need in the Regional Local Health Networks.
    • commit to working at one of the regional Local Health Network health sites on graduation for a time equivalent in years to that funding is provided

People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are strongly encouraged to apply

Regional Local Health Network Scholarships 

  • There are a total of 10 scholarships in total offered at each intake period
  • The scholarship is a one year scholarship funding. Each scholarship valued at $4,500 paid pro rata to study load. The scholarship payments are paid in two half yearly taxable allowance payments paid through payroll.
  • To be eligible for the Regional Local Health Network Scholarship applicants must;
    • be permanent employees of a regional Local Health Network or Rural Support Service
    • be studying part time, or about to commence part time study, in an approved program of postgraduate level study.  Approved programs of study are determined by the agreed Workforce Need in the Regional Local Health Network. Workforce Need areas can cover both Nursing, Allied Health and Management fields. 
    • For the purposes of this scholarship, postgraduate study at university is defined as: an academic program which results in the student being awarded with a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master Degree or Doctoral Degree.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees are strongly encouraged to apply.

Margaret Tobin Mental Health Scholarship

  • There is a total of 1 scholarship in total offered at each intake period
  • The scholarship is a one year scholarship funding. Valued at $4,500 paid pro rata to study load. The scholarship payments are paid in two half yearly taxable allowance payments paid through payroll.
  • To be eligible for the Margaret Tobin Mental Health scholarships applicants must;
    • be permanent employees of a Regional Local Health Network or Rural Support Service
    • be studying part time, or about to commence part time study, in the field of Mental Health
    • For the purposes of this scholarship, postgraduate study at university is defined as: an academic program which results in the student being awarded with a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master Degree or Doctoral Degree.

  • University acceptance is not required to apply for a scholarship, if you are successful in winning a scholarship you will then be required to provide proof of acceptance and enrolment.
