South Australia’s Palliative Care Strategic Framework 2022-2027
South Australia's Palliative Care Strategic Framework 2022-2027 (PDF 7.6MB) has been developed to guide and prioritise improvements in the quality and availability of palliative care services for all South Australians.
The Framework was developed by SA Health in collaboration with the Statewide Palliative Care Clinical Network Steering Committee and palliative care stakeholders from across our community.
The Framework aligns our current and future efforts with the goals of the National Palliative Care Strategy 2018 and identifies four priority areas for improvement.
- Increase community awareness, understanding and engagement with end of life matters
- Improve access to generalist and specialist palliative care, particularly for underserved populations
- Enhance collaboration and coordination of palliative care
- Improve data collection, measurement and reporting of palliative care data.
The development of a new Palliative Care Services Plan and Statewide Palliative Care Model of Care for South Australia are key Framework actions that will be prioritised for early completion. These key initiatives will support us to deliver equity of access to high quality, evidence informed palliative care services across South Australia and will support more people with a life limiting illness to die according to their needs, preferences, values and wishes.
