SALHN strives to continually improve our research capability which is done though engaging our partners across health, academia and industry.

We have a variety of internal and external grant opportunities throughout the year.

SALHN can also administer a range of grants on behalf of SALHN staff.

2023 Enquiry Grant round – Winners announced

In collaboration with joint Major Partners The Hospital Research Foundation Group and Flinders Foundation, SALHN is pleased to announce the winners of the SALHN Enquiry Grant round aimed at supporting the SALHN Research Direction and encouraging further Implementation, Improvement and Research across our network.

In September 2023, 47 Submissions from all Divisions across SALHN were reviewed by the SALHN Research Council.

It is with great pleasure we can now announce the 17 winners of the SALHN Enquiry Grants:

  • Professor Malcolm Battersby, Psychiatry - MyAPT-SP: Co-design and pilot of a nationally scalable intervention for people who present to an Emergency Department with a suicide attempt
  • Elizabeth Kapur, Nutrition and Dietetics - An evaluation of a novel gastrostomy feeding app (PEG Ed) with an interactive decision-making tool for patients and their families living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
  • Nicole Marshall, Paediatrics - Can textured insoles reduce the amount of toe walking in children with sensory needs? A randomised controlled trial
  • Rohan Miegel, Physiotherapy - Determining the value and relative importance of elements, themes and logistics of a Prehabilitation for Cancer Surgery program from the perspective of consumers and health leadership staff: a discrete choice experiment study
  • Catherine Ames, Geriatric Medicine - Evaluating innovations which aim to prevent and manage challenging behaviours in hospital settings
  • Frank Guerriero, Vascular Surgery - A nurse practitioner-led wound management basic science project for the Identification of cellular senescence biomarkers in diabetic foot wounds treated with a bi-layer biodegradable synthetic matrix
  • Professor Rob Baker, Cardiothoracic Surgery - Evaluating and implementing an e-mental health resource for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients during admission for cardiac surgery – a continuous improvement project
  • Dr Jessica Smith, Rehabilitation - Bridging the gap – a pilot project assessing efficacy and safety of a conscious sedation pathway for consumers with neurodevelopmental disability to access early health intervention
  • Lydia Forbes, Occupational Therapy - Evaluating the effectiveness and implementation of a cognitive remediation program for residents of a mental health community rehabilitation centre
  • Dr Amelia Searle, Anaesthesia and Pain Management - Does a movement-based self-management program improve outcomes for people with chronic low back pain following their lumbar facet procedures? A pilot randomised controlled trial
  • Dr Fiona Taverner, Anaesthesia and Pain Management - Electrical impedance tomography assessment of lung homogeneity in infants undergoing inguinal hernia surgery; a prospective cohort study
  • Professor Arduino Mangoni, Clinical Pharmacology - Developing innovative and holistic prescribing strategies in patients with multimorbidity using network analysis
  • Dr Jeyamani Ramachandran, Gastroenterology and Hepatology - The role of Human Leukocyte Antibodies Non-Human Leukocyte Antibodies in liver transplant dysfunction
  • Xia Jin, ICU - Evaluating the effectiveness of the Flinders Medical Centre’s “SOC” initiative on ICU patient discharges and patient outcomes: a mixed method study
  • Associate Professor Timothy To, Palliative Care - The Experience of Sleep for Palliative Care Patients and Their Carers
  • Associate Professor Justin Prendergast, Oral Health - Improving inpatients oral health through the implementation of evidence-based interventions in SALHN
  • Dr Kisani Manuel, Rehabilitation - Leveraging human centred design to develop a model of care for older people with Post COVID-19 Condition
