Metropolitan council winner for 2024

The City of Adelaide for the Project Night Light initiative

The City of Adelaide was named the 2024 Metropolitan award winner for its Project Night Light initiative which focuses on patron safety, gender equality and a vibrant night-time economy. The project’s mix of gender safety audits, premises design, witnessing and disclosure training, and Safety Champions Network aim to foster public safety and inclusion at the City’s licensed premises.

Regional councils winners for 2024

For the first time in 2024, we have a tie for winning regional council:

  • District Council of Orroroo Carrieton for ‘Making a splash for health longevity’
  • Alexandrina Council, The Town of Gawler, The City of Onkaparinga Council, The City of Playford, The City of Port Lincoln, Renmark Paringa Council, and the District Council of Yankalilla for their collaboration - ‘Building Regulatory Efficiencies for Sustainable Onsite Wastewater System Management

District Council of Orroroo Carrieton: Making a splash for health longevity

The District Council of Orroroo Carrieton was named one of two regional winners in 2024 for their ‘Making a splash for health and longevity’ project. The project aimed to provide equal access to the local pool for individuals aged over 50 years in the mid north of South Australia. Key-partners included the Orroroo Health Service, Yorke and Northern Local Health Network and Allied Health Team, Goyder’s Line Medical Centre, Council on the Ageing SA, and notably the local community. This collaborative approach established a model for community driven success that can be used as an example in other regions.

The second regional winner for 2024 was awarded to the ‘Building Regulatory Efficiencies for Sustainable Onsite Wastewater System Management’ initiative. This project was supported by the Local Government Research & Development Scheme administered by the LGA South Australia. The project aimed to improve council abilities to detect and respond to Aerated Wastewater Treatment System failures through the development of standardised reporting for thousands of systems across South Australia, a phase two plan for the delivery of complimentary IT tools for councils, and a community of practice for the effective, efficient, and consistent regulatory oversight of onsite wastewater systems across South Australia.

Highly Commended certificates for 2024

Highly Commended certificates are awarded for meritorious contributions to public health outcomes by local councils. The 2024 recipients are:

  • The City of Onkaparinga Council, for Living Well Matters
  • City of Victor Harbor, for the Active Wellbeing Project
